Wenger Swiss Army & SwissGear Backpack Warranty

Posted on: January 9, 2012

Did you know there are a few factors that affect the warranty period for your Wenger Swiss Army, SwissGear, or Victorinox Swiss?  Since Wenger, SwissGear, and Victorinox backpacks are made by various licensees, it seems that each licensee has different stipulations regarding warranty coverage.  For the average consumer, this can be quite confusing.  Who knew there were so many companies involved?

Fortunately, finding out the warranty information and the requirements to process a warranty claim are not that difficult.  When purchasing a Wenger, SwissGear, or Victorinox backpack, you should not only read the warranty tag, but keep it along with the original sales receipt!  More often than not, the manufacturer is going to ask you to provide a copy of the receipt as the date on the receipt will be only way the date of purchase can be verified, thus saving you headaches to any potential challenges on whether or not your backpack is within the warranty period.  Some licensees, such as Group III International, the largest manufacturer of Wenger and SwissGear backpacks, state that the receipt is required to not only verify the date of purchase, but to also verify the origin of the bag, to ensure that you acquired it from an authorized retailer, thereby ensuring the bag is not counterfeit.

Should you no longer have the receipt or warranty tag, and you just happened to stumble upon this article, simply look inside your backpack for a stitched woven label that has the brand identifier on it, i.e., SwissGear, Wenger, or Victorinox.  Under the brand, you will find the name of the licensee that manufactured your backpack.  There are only three of them, and the largest is Group III International, followed by Avenues USA, then followed by TRG Group.  Group III's customer service can be reached at customerservice@groupiiico.com; Avenues USA is contactus@avenuesusa.com; and TRG Group's customer service is service@trggrp.com.

When contacting the manufacturer, keep in mind that they may ask you for identifiable information about your backpack, and they may also ask for pictures.  Try to collect all the information you have ahead of time to save yourself some hassle later.  Keep in mind that while the length of the warranty may vary by manufacturer, all three have limited warranties which only cover manufacturer defects, and do not cover damage related to normal wear and tear, accidental damage, and damage resulting from misuse.  So if you have an old bag that you're trying to upgrade via the warranty, save yourself the embarrassment of being denied and go find yourself a new one on SwissArmyBackpack.com!
